Conversion Tracking & Analytics

Google Analytics may seem vast and confusing if you are quite new to it, but it is one of the best tools to use if you want to boost your digital ad campaigns and track conversions. The basic idea is to see whether or not your ads were appealing enough to get clicks and lead a customer to take specific actions on your website, downloading an app, or calling your business.

In this post, we will discuss how you can effectively track your conversions in Google Analytics.

How to track conversions

Having understood the basic idea behind conversions the first step to take in tracking conversions is selecting what exactly you want to track. The conversions vary from website purchases to newsletter sign up, button clicks, and other website actions. There are also other conversion tracking options like customer app installs or app purchases, phone calls, app or web conversions from Google Analytics, and offline conversions like store visits.

You can track your conversions by either setting up different conversion actions for each type of conversion you will like to track. For example, different conversion actions can be set up to track website purchases and newsletter sign-ups, individually.

You can also set up multiple conversion actions for different conversion sources. For example, you can track two or three different actions on your website or app: website purchases, app installs, and app conversions. To track them, you can set up different conversion actions for each of them. When tracking multiple conversions use the “Include in ‘Conversions’” setting to select the conversions you want to include in your “Conversions” reporting section.

How does conversion tracking work?

Usually, a conversion tracking only happens when a tracking pixel is placed on the “Thank You” page which shows that a customer has completed a purchase or completed a goal on your website. This may vary by business types or goals. For example, a typical e-commerce business the tracking pixel will come after an order has been placed. A B2B company may have its tracking pixel on a contact form. Other conversions may include phone calls, signups, and/or app downloads.

If you want to Google AdWords to track conversions to know which keywords generate the most clicks and conversions, the Conversion Tracking tool is a great place to start.
